Product Description Web services are a set of standards that define how a computer can expose select data or functionality to client applications via the Internet, and are increasingly becoming more commonplace as a means for business partners to share information. The 14 lessons in this 8 hour two disk DVD set begins with an examination of the core Web service standards, and then quickly moves into showing you how to create and consume Web services in Microsoft's .NET Framework. There are in-depth lessons for each of the core Web service standards: XML, SOAP, and WSDL. Scattered throughout each of these chapters are extensive demos, depicting how to build, deploy, and access Web services using Microsoft's Visual Studio .NET. The DVD also contains a thorough examination of a real-world, end-to-end Web service application. This DVD also contains lessons on the Web Service Enhancements, or WSE, including a look at Microsoft's WSE Toolkit. In particular, the DVD presents an overview of WSE, the WSE Toolkit, and provides demos of sending attachments and providing UsernameToken authentication.
Featured Customer Reviews Too much repetition, for beginners,
December 24, 2004 Get a good overview, but somtimes very boring, because Scott repeats everything several times and he repaets everything again. That is, he repeats it again as I mentioned before. The DVD is really for beginners, to learn the basic concepts. Conclusion: Too much repetitions.
This DVD Rocks!,
November 25, 2004 This is probably one of the best buys that I have made this year. I had a .net services class at my University, and I found the topic rather boring. However, this DVD changed my mind. The guy has a very nice style of teaching that keeps you starving for more. He pretty much covers everything you need to know to become comfortable with Xml Webservices. In any case, this DVD helped me alot with my .net MCAD exam, being new to .net. Well-done!!
Beginner to Advanced in a 1 DAY!,
August 23, 2004 Great DVD for newbies and veterans to .NET. Some books talk about how to create a windows service, but they stop there and don't give you the necessary information to use it in a windows application or security. Other titles start too advanced and go further to the point of unuse. Scott Mitchell (4guysfromRolla President) does an excellent job of explaining the groundwork of web services and then gets into how to use this in a web app, windows app and a service oriented architecture. He also goes on to talk about soap authorization credentials in the WSE 1.0 & 2.0. This DVD takes users not knowing much about web services or .NET in general to using Web Services in Win app, Web Apps, Service Oriented Architectures and even security through the soap header.
